How to use the Business Finder
There are three steps to searching:
1. "Find: " word - enter the type of business or service you're looking for, e.g. 'barber', 'African Caribbean Caterers'.
2. Location - type in where you want to look, using a postcode, town or city.
3. Search - click on the 'go' button to start your search.
Clarify your search
You may be given a list of categories matching your search e.g. 'rice' will bring up "Restaurants - African" and "Restaurants - African Caribbean". Just click on the most relevant one. Some locations share the same name e.g. Leeds, Kent and Leeds , West Yorkshire. You will be presented with a list of locations that match your query. Just click on the most relevant one.
Business search tips
To save time you only need to type the first three letters in the "Find" box, e.g. 'dating' will find 'Speed Dating','Afro Dating' or 'Christian Dating'.
If you are not sure what type of business you are looking for but have an idea of a related keyword, e.g. 'bed' the search machine can provide a list of related businesses such as Beddings and Bed and Breakfast.
Location search tips
You need to type at least two characters in the Location box. However the more characters you can enter will help improve your online experience. If a location is not recognised, try a different spelling, e.g. 'Saint Albans' instead of 'St Albans'. Alternatively, try a postcode prefix, e.g. 'LE4' or 'CV1'.
County boundaries
Until recently, all districts in the UK were nestled neatly within county boundaries, but in 1995 the first Unitary Authorities were formed in which the duties of county and district authorities were combined. In some cases these boundaries have remained unchanged but the boundary map of Britain is in a state of change. In practise, this means that sometimes JetPages.com may list a town or village in one county, when, in fact, it may be in another. We assure you this in no way reflects on the geographical accuracy of our data.
